Management & Monitoring Body & Support Mechanism
Within the framework of the Regional and National Smart Specialisation Strategy, the Mechanism operates in a supportive capacity to the Department of Enterprise Development, Innovation & Investor Information of the Directorate of Developmental Planning of the Region of Thessaly, which constitutes the Governance Body of RIS3 Thessaly (Government Gazette 2078/B/2024) pursuant to the relevant provisions for the governance scheme of the National Smart Specialisation Strategy 2021-2027.
The Mechanism is part of the RIS3 Thessaly Governance System. Therefore, the communication flows between the Mechanism and the Thessaly RIS3 are regular for the planning and execution of the project's main activities. The Mechanism, due to its position in the governance system, is responsible for coordinating the work of the Thematic Working Groups.
Thematic Working Groups
The Thematic Working Groups are the grassroots representatives of the regional innovation ecosystem for each priority sector with the rest of the governance system, and at the same time the focal point for interaction and the fermentation of ideas, directions and policy proposals from the priority sector's stakeholders. Consequently, their members possess experience and perceptions of wider developments in the priority sector at regional, national and international level, enjoy recognition and general acceptance, and have a willingness to contribute. The composition of each TWG reflects the structure of the regional innovation ecosystem in the priority sector (ranging, as appropriate, from strongly academic/research-oriented to strongly business-oriented) and its geographical concentration.
