The MELISSA — Multimodal Enhanced Local ImmerSive StoryscApes project proposes the development of an integrated digital ecosystem to highlight local cultural heritage with a pilot implementation in the city of Karditsa. The goal is to create a unified, interoperable digital repository that will document and digitize the exhibition and archival material of the City Museum, as well as develop innovative tools — an AR application for personalized cultural tours (based on the ACUX taxonomy), a personalization and recommendation engine (AI core), a generative-AI storytelling system, and a conversational digital assistant (MELISSA Agent). The architecture combines curated and dynamic content production (RAG + LLMs), context-aware personalization, and modular design for reuse. The project aims to activate collective memory, strengthen sustainable local tourism, and transfer know-how between academia and the production sector. Key deliverables include a documented repository, an original AR application, an AI core, generative storytelling, a dialog agent, and an integrated platform (end-to-end). KPIs and milestones are set for digitization, AR features, the number of micro-stories, API performance, and connections with external repositories (e.g., Europeana).
